The Lafayette Parish School System says that a child was left on a parish school bus Wednesday morning.
The 7-year-old child was found walking around the parking lot of the Big Easy Truck Stop and Casino in Broussard. The child had reportedly fallen asleep while on the bus.
The bus had been parked in Broussard for about 30 minutes following the completion of the bus route.
Director of Risk Management for the School System, Ramona Bernard says that the child was picked up by the Broussard Police Department and was brought to school.
LPSS says that police are in the process of pulling surveillance video from the truck stop.
The manager of the Big Easy Truck Stop and Casino says, “The bus driver is not a patron of Big Easy and was not inside of the casino, he basically parks his bus in our trucker lot, behind the casino and swaps out with his personal vehicle.”
The child’s parents were notified and Bernard says the driver
has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
