Volunteers needed to install free smoke alarms

LAFAYETTE, La. – This Saturday, the American Red Cross will hold its final two Sound the Alarm. Save a Life. signature events in Lafayette Parish and is need of volunteers in an effort to save lives across Acadiana.

During this Sound the Alarm event-which is part of the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign to reduce fire deaths and injuries-volunteers will go door-to-door with community partners to install free smoke alarms and help families create escape plans.

Over the last three weeks, volunteers have visited more than fifteen communities across Louisiana. Through those efforts, 1,900 smoke alarms have been installed and over 1000 homes have been made safer; More than 350 of those alarms were installed during the first two events in Acadiana.

To register as a volunteer in advance, visit www.soundthealarm.org/Louisiana. Volunteers are also invited to meet up at the rally point on the morning of the event at 8:30 AM to join the efforts to #EndHomeFires.
