UPDATE: Lafayette Police identify homicide victim, arrest two

UPDATE: Lafayette Police have identified the victim in last night’s shooting at St. Anthony Park.

Michael Thomas, 54, has died.

Arrested in his death are two teens, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old, both boys, and both booked with second-degree murder.

The younger child also was booked with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a firearm by a Juvenile and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number. The older child was booked with Possession of Schedule II and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in addition to the murder charge. They’ve both been booked into the Lafayette juvenile detention center.

In recent months, the 13-year old juvenile suspect was detained by Lafayette Police officer’s in reference to several curfew violations within the city limits. Additional charges as it pertains to the violation of a status offense law will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review against the custodian responsible for the juvenile. The investigation remains ongoing.

Police were called to the park, which is located on Edison Street, at about 11 p.m. last night. They found the victim, who was taken to a hospital where he died, police say.
