Man arrested, accused of pointing rifle out of Lafayette hotel window

On Saturday, the Lafayette Police Department arrested a man for reportedly pointing a rifle out of hotel window and into the parking lot.

The incident, according to the Police Association Facebook page, was reported around 9:30 pm on Saturday, May 4.

The suspect, identified in the post as 23-year-old Alex Ortuno, was said to have been wearing a thick, winter military-style uniform and pointing a rifle through an open hotel window into the parking lot.

According to the post, police spoke with the complainant and quickly identified the room Ortuno was occupying. Other rooms in the hotel were evacuated before officers confronted Ortuno.

Following the evacuation, the post states that officers made contact with Ortuno and he was taken into custody without injury.

He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.
