Unleash Lafayette, a campaign aimed at giving control over minimum wage and family leave policies to local government, launched today outside City Hall.

Here’s some info from the group:

Louisiana has no paid family leave law and is one of five states with no state minimum wage. Under a 1999 law, cities and parishes that want to set their own wage and family leave standards are banned from doing so. Unleash Lafayette is demanding that the state legislature repeal this law and return control to Lafayette leaders. Earlier this month, State Representative Royce Duplessis (D-New Orleans) introduced HB-422 in coordination with the campaign to do just that. Speaking at the campaign launch, local residents and community leaders will call on their state legislators to support the bill.

We’ll have more from the rally later today on KATC TV3.
