Sheriff’s Office releases details on Beau Bassin shooting

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office has released more details on Monday night’s shooting incident on Beau Bassin Road in Lafayette.

Deputies say it was determined that the incident was an aggravated battery that resulted in the suspect’s suicide.

On the scene, police located a victim who was in serious condition as a result of a gunshot wound. That person was transported to a local hospital and is currently receiving medical attention.

The sheriff’s department says that a second person, determined to be the suspect, was found dead at the scene. The result of a suicide.

An investigation determined the incident was isolated and only involved the two individuals.

The deceased suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Phillip Candella of Carencro.
