Two Acadia Parish natives are being awarded for their contributions to the humanities.
Darrell Bourque and Viola Fontenot, who are natives of Church Point, are among those being honored at the annual Bright Lights Awards Dinner.
Former Louisiana poet laureate Darrell Bourque was chosen as the 2019 Humanist of the Year, and A Cajun Girl’s Sharecropping Years by Viola Fontenot was selected as the 2019 Humanities Book of the Year.
The awards are part of the state humanities council’s effort to honor individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the study and understanding of the humanities.
