Longtime owner of Lafayette nursing home dies

LAFAYETTE – The longtime owner of Lady of the Oaks Nursing Home has died.

Bernard “Ben” Babineaux passed away Wednesday, March 27 at his home in Lafayette at the age of 82.

Most notably, Babineaux owned the nursing home on Eraste Landry Road for 40 years. He also owned Babineaux Construction and Real Estate.

Before his business ventures, Babineaux served as a member of the Louisiana National Guard for over nine years.

Babineaux leaves behind his wife, one son, and two daughters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1 at 10 a.m. in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette. Entombment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be at Martin & Castille’s downtown location on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service. A rosary will be prayed by Father Voorhies Short on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
