A Lafayette attorney has been confirmed as Director of the United States Marshal Service.

Donald W. Washington, an attorney and partner at Jones Walker LLP in Lafayette, was recently confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the director position. Washington was appointed by President Donald Trump in October 2018.

Washington will now oversee one of the oldest federal enforcement agencies in the country.

His swearing in ceremony will take place in Shreveport on Friday, March 29 at the federal courthouse.

Washington served as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana under the George. W. Bush administration.

A West Point graduate, Washington earned his law degree from South Texas College in Houston.

In 2018 Washington was appointed as the temporary Marshal for the City of Lafayette taking the place of elected city marshal Brian Pope.
