UPDATE: 2 sentenced in 2016 shooting death at MLK Center in Lafayette

UPDATE:  LAFAYETTE, La. – On March 14, 2019, Judge John Trahan sentenced Jamal Lacon and Raven Wiltz to mandatory life sentences without probation, parole or suspension of sentence, for the shooting death of Desmond Boutte at the MLK Center on July 6, 2016.

Boutte was shot multiple times by both individuals.

Lacon and Wiltz were convicted of second degree murder on February 28, 2019, by a 12 person jury in Lafayette Parish.

A jury has found two Lafayette men guilty in a 2016 murder in Lafayette.

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, a Lafayette jury convicted Jamal Lacon and Raven Wiltz for the shooting death of Desmond Boutte at the MLK Center on July 6, 2016.

Lancon and Wiltz

In that shooting, Desmond Boutte was shot multiple times by both Lancon and Wiltz. The shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Boutte and Lancon and Wiltz.

Both were indicted by the grand jury in 2016 for the murder.  

Sentencing is set for March 6, 2019.   Under Louisiana law both defendants face mandatory life sentences without probation parole or suspension of sentence.
