UPDATE: Fire officials say the fire that destroyed a home on West Farrel Road this morning started in a storage building.

Firefighters were called to the home shortly after midnight, after a neighbor awoke to loud noises. When he looked outside, he saw fire in his neighbor’s back yard. The family inside got out, but a dog inside the storage building died, firefighters say. The dog was in the building because it was cold, they say.

The home and a car under the carport burned, and about 30 firefighters battled the two-alarm fire for more than an hour before it was under control.

Investigators determined the fire originated inside the storage building adjacent to the carport. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
