
A 41-year-old man was found guilty Thursday of raping a child.
On January 24, 2019, a Lafayette Parish jury convicted Donald Griffin of first-degree rape of a ten-year-old girl.
Judge John Trahan presided over the case. As a result of the rape Griffin impregnated the child, who is currently mother to her one-and-a- half year old son. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Royale Colbert.
Griffin’s sentencing is scheduled for January 31, 2019. Griffin now faces a mandatory life in prison sentence.
During trial this week, jurors heard from the Lafayette Police Department Detective Matthew Broussard detective in charge, forensic witnesses, the victim’s younger sister, the children’s DCFS case manager, and the victim, now twelve years old.
