Comeaux trio wins big at California speech competition

Three members of the Comeaux Speech Team placed in the final rounds of a national speech and debate competition.

Over the weekend, 3 members of the Comeaux Speech Team,  Rashon Leday, Emily Guidry, and Jacob Foster competed in the James Logan MLK Invitational in California.

Coach Jacob Simon says these students were chosen because of their success last year, all having made finals at Nationals.

At this tournament, Simon says there were over 175 schools from across 15 Stares in attendance. Each of the 9 speech events started with over 100 competitors.

All three Comeaux Speech team members made it to the final rounds.

Results are as follows:

Breaking to Quarter Finals (top 24 in the event)

Rashon Leday in Dramatic

Breaking to Semi-Finals (top 12 in the event)

Emily Guidry in POI

Breaking to Finals and Placing (top 6 in the event)

In POI: Rashon Leday – 4th Place
In Humorous Interp: Jacob Foster – 2nd Place
In Original Oratory: Emily Guidry – 2nd Place
In Dramatic Interp: Jacob Foster – Champion

In Duo Interp: Jacob Foster&Rashon Leday-Champions

Junior, Jacob Foster was awarded the Individual Events Sweepstakes Award for the highest scoring Individual Performer

Comeaux Speech also won 1st Place in Small School Sweepstakes. Simon says that this award went to the top school with less than 50 entries in the tournament.  Comeaux Speech had the smallest entry in the tournament.
