Barricades and closures announced ahead of MLK Day parade

The Lafayette Police Department will be placing barricades out as Martin Luther King Jr Day approaches. Roads in Lafayette are expected to close for a parade on Sunday.

That parade will be on Sunday, January 20th, 2019.  W. Willow St. will be closed from N. University Ave. to NW Evangeline Thruway for the parade. That closure is set to begin at 2:30 pm. and will remain closed until the parade ends between 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm. 

The closure of Cora St. will take place at 1:00 pm Sunday where the parade begins. The parade begins at 3:00 pm at the intersection of Cora St. @ W. Willow St. and ends on W. Willow St. in front of the Clifton Chenier Center.

Barricades will begin to be placed out on Friday, January 18th from 8:00 am until approximately 11:00 am. Crews will be putting out barricades on W. Willow Street from N. University Avenue to the NW Evangeline Thruway.  West Willow Street will be closed during barricade placement.

After the barricades are put out, only the outer lanes will be open for travel until Tuesday.  On Tuesday, morning January 22, crews will be back out picking up the barricades from 8:00 am until approximately 11:00 am. 

W. Willow Street will be closed again during that time.
