SWAT is responding to the Super 7 Inn in Lafayette in reference to a fatal shooting that happened on Thursday.

Today, SWAT responded to the Super 7 Inn on NE Evangeline Thruway between Netta Street and Chalmette Drive in Lafayette.

According to police, a person staying in one of the rooms would not answer the door, so SWAT was called. A woman was found injured inside the room.

Police say it’s unclear how the woman was injured because she’s not being “cooperative.”

On Jan. 3, 2019, around 2:15 pm, police received calls of a shooting at the Lafayette motel. One person was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. It is unclear, police say, how many times the person was shot. That person was transported to a local hospital where he died.

The shooting victim was identified as 48-year-old Frederick Richardson of Baton Rouge. Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

Police initially said the incident today and the shooting were related, but now are unsure if the two incidents are connected.
