Some families got the New Year’s party started much earlier today.

Children were showered with confetti and balloons as they counted down to noon at the Children’s Museum of Acadiana.

Pint sized party-goers packed the museum, anxiously counting down. The kids all agree, their favorite thing is the colorful confetti storm.

“It’s raining confetti,” said Caleb Chaisson. “It was really fun! There was confetti all over.”

Abby Rideau said, “I like confetti and it’s a party.”

Every year, the Children’s Museum of Acadiana fills several containers with confetti cut by hand in preparation to fire two confetti cannons.

“We can shoot for a very long time,” said Carol McManus, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum. “If you’ve never experienced it, once you do, you’ll want to ring in every New Year with us. It’s pretty spectacular.”

This is the museum’s 23rd year hosting the family New Year’s event. The day was complete with games, arts and crafts and exploring the many exhibits at the museum.

“I think parents are so busy, it’s just nice to come in and spend the time with your kid,” said Alecia Rideau.
