Acadiana Mall shooting suspect arrested

UPDATE: The suspect wanted in the shooting at the Acadiana Mall on Christmas Eve is now in custody.

Lafayette Police say 20-year-old Marlon Bryant Woods Jr. was arrested at 7:00 pm,  after turning himself in to authorities.

Woods surrendered to police at the Lafayette Police Department and is awaiting transport to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center to be booked on the active warrant for attempted second-degree murder, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal discharge of a firearm and terrorizing.

“Lafayette Police Detectives have worked non-stop through the holiday to bring the person responsible for the Christmas Eve shooting to justice.  Today’s arrest is a credit to their tenacity and dedication to the safety of the citizens of Lafayette.  Let this arrest also serve as notice that this kind of reckless behavior is unacceptable, will not be tolerated, and that the Lafayette Police Department will not rest until an arrest is made.”

An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect wanted for the Acadiana Mall shooting that occurred on Christmas Eve on Wednesday evening.

The suspect is identified as 20-year-old Marlon Bryant Woods, Jr. of Lafayette.

Woods was wanted for attempted second-degree murder, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal discharge of a firearm and terrorizing.

He was considered armed and dangerous.

Police ask anyone who knows the whereabouts of Woods to contact Lafayette Police or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
