Lafayette drug bust leads to arrest of Florida man

A Florida man is in custody on drug charges following an ongoing investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Tactical Narcotics Team.

On Thursday, officers located 22-year-old Devolas Rome on E. Cypress Street in downtown Lafayette and say he was in possession of 8.3 pounds of cocaine, a street value of over $400,000.

Rome is facing one count of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics. Police say he also had an active warrant out of Pensacola, Florida for an unrelated drug charge.

The suspect was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a $500,000 bond.

The police department released the following statement on the arrest:

“TNT was put in place to combat illegal drug activity within the City of Lafayette. The team is made up of highly trained and exceptionally motivated investigators who specialize in reducing drug trafficking or any drug-related crimes by enforcing the controlled substance laws of Louisiana. TNT investigators will continue the fight against illegal drug activity in the City of Lafayette to assure a safer environment.”
