UPDATE: The man wanted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office for fleeing a traffic stop on Tuesday has been arrested.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon says that Michael O’Bryan Jr. was arrested without incident at an apartment complex in Abbeville this morning by detectives and members of the Vermilion Parish Narcotics Task Force.

O’Bryan will be transported to Lafayette for booking later today, the sheriff said.

The incident began yesterday when Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle took off, and led officers on a pursuit into Vermilion Parish. During the pursuit, several weapons were thrown out of the vehicle, Lafayette deputies said.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Winfred Rd. and Gordon Rd. in Vermilion Parish when the three occupants in the vehicle fled on foot.

Two of the occupant’s Paula Viator, 31, of Erath, and Joshua Rogers, 31, of Kaplan, were arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail and a third, identified as O’Bryan, was still at large last night.

A search of the area was conducted by both the Lafayette and Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to locate the third suspect, but was since been called off.

Deputies in Vermilion and Lafayette parishes are searching for a man who fled a traffic stop earlier today.

Lafayette Parish deputies tried to make the stop earlier today, but the vehicle, which had three people inside, took off, a spokesman said.

As deputies chased it, two people inside threw out guns, he said. The vehicle eventually crashed, he said. No injuries were reported.

The three people in the vehicle bailed out and ran, but two were caught and are being arrested now, he said. There was contraband in the vehicle, but the spokesman did not have details.

The third person has been identified, and deputies are obtaining a warrant for him now, the spokesman said.

We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
