Since one company’s rent-to-ride scooters showed up in town last month, another is now here.

As we reported, Bird scooters showed up on Lafayette street corners recently. Now, another company, Lime, has introduced their rent-to-ride scooters to the city.

The appearance of the things has provoked a response from City-Parish officials, spokeswoman Cydra Wingerter said.

City-Parish officials already have met with Bird’s governmental affairs people to discuss the issues and concerns that the scooters have raised. And, since no city ordinance addresses these things, work already has begun on an ordinance that will govern how the businesses operate in Lafayette, liability, etc.

Today, they’re just asking people who use the scooters to park them out of the way so they don’t cause accessibility issues for pedestrians or others using city sidewalks, and to operate them safely, she said.

We’re following this story and we’ll have an update as soon as new information is available.
