A Lafayette Parish grand jury declined to indict a local man in connection with a September 2017 slaying.

The grand jury returned a “no true bill” in the case of Demarko Alfred, 18, who had been accused of second-degree murder in connection with the slaying of Jaleel Lamar Bonham.

Bonham’s body was found in a vehicle in Brown Park.

At the time, Bonham’s family said they suspected Alfred because he is the one who called police. He was arrested in December 2017.

The “no true bill” means that Alfred faces no charges in connection with the death of Bonham.
