The Lafayette Parish School Board on Wednesday is scheduled to consider adding six portable classrooms to Southside High.

As we told you in October, enrollment projections for the next school year have staff asking for six portable classrooms. The portables will come from other schools where enrollment is projected to decline, including Alice Boucher Elementary, according to board documents.

The estimated cost to move the six portables, connect all the utilities, furnishing/equipping them for high school students and constructing walkways is more than $622,000 according to the board agenda item.

Staff say that they believe that most of that amount will be covered by unspent contingency built into the original construction project. The item is on the board’s information agenda, meaning they’re designated to discuss it.

Also on Wednesday’s agenda is the school calendar for the 2019-20 school year. There are eight proposals; to see them and read about that issue, click here.

The board’s regular meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the board room at the School System’s Central Office on Chaplin Drive.
