Students across the state compete in robotics competition in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE – More than 30 teams made up of students from across the state are competing in the VEX Robotics Competition.

The competition is taking place at the new I-Tech Center at the W.D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center, which recently undergone a transformation to meet students’ technological needs. The transformation includes new computers with capabilities to run design programs.

The competition is broken up into two groups: grades 3-6 and grades 7-12.

The Lafayette Parish School System has helped prepare local students for this competition after purchasing robotics equipment, acquiring 3D printers, and training teachers at all levels.

The new I-Tech Center is the premier manufacturing and robotics facility in the state. The center is home to the only permanent FIRST Robotics Competition field in Louisiana.

Concessions are available at the competition, and the awards ceremony begins at 3:45 p.m. following the competition.
