LAFAYETTE – Activist and former general manager of KJCB Jenelle Chargois has passed away, her family confirms.

Chargois is known for her many years dedicated to broadcast journalism and strides she made in the African American community in Lafayette.

KATC spoke to a colleague and friend of Chargois, Marcus Allen, who said, “The legacy that Ms. Jenelle leaves behind is one that will not soon be forgotten. I think that she had an indelible impact on this community in terms of being the nucleus of different movements.”

He went on to say, “The shooting and the violence that’s going on right now… Ms. Jenelle would attack that. That radio station, people would tune in for her show in the morning times, and that is where people would get information on how they’re going to move, what is going to take place. And Ms. Jenelle was that person that would lead that, almost like a Harriet Tubman.”
