South Louisiana Community College celebrated the opening of two new centers today with tours for the public.

The Academic Success Center, which is a site for tutoring, and the Center for Minority Excellence each hosted open houses today, which included tours.

The Center for Minority Excellence is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Predominantly Black Institutions Grant. The center aims to increase enrollment, retention, transfer, and college completion rates of African American students at SLCC.

The Academic Success Center is home to SLCC’s tutoring program. This program makes available a multitude of tutoring programs to SLCC students.

“Our center provides a variety of services, from tutoring to mentoring, and as you’ve heard from our students today, it’s also provides a home away from home,” said Katheryne Pavey, dean of student services.

Students who have used these services were on hand to talk to visitors at today’s event.
