Wednesday night, the Lafayette Parish School Board named Milton Elementary student Colin McGhee an honorary school board member.

McGhee was diagnosed with stage 2 Wilms’ tumor earlier this year.

“You are always welcome back to our school board meetings,” said board member Jeremy Hidalgo, who invited McGhee to the meeting.

McGhee’s seat will remain reserved at the next meeting with his name tag just in case he enjoyed the job.

Last week, we introduced you to McGhee when he was surprised to find out he would be fulfilling his dream of meeting Adam Levine in Los Angeles.

“I’ve been undergoing chemo for the past three to four months. I just had my second-to-last treatment, so I just have one more to go,” said McGhee in a speech to the audience.

“Don’t run for political office for District 5, okay?” joked school board member Britt Latiolais after McGhee’s address.
