From now until December 31, applications are open for Magnet Academies across Lafayette Parish.

Early College Academy (ECA) Information Session for incoming 9th graders will be held November 6, 2018, from 6 pm to 7 pm at SLCC Devalcourt Auditorium, 320 Devalcourt St. Lafayette, 70506. Parents and students are invited to learn more about the Magnet Academy.

According to the LPSS website, Magnet Academies offer specialized theme-immersed programs in various pathways. From Arts, Broadcasting and Journalism, Business, Health Services, Legal Studies, STEM, and Technology to ECA, JROTC, and World Language Immersion; students are prepared to enter the workforce and post-secondary education with skills for success.

ECA blends high school and college work in a rigorous yet supportive program, compressing the time it usually takes to complete a high school diploma and a college degree.

Applications will close December 31, 2018, at 11:30 pm. Those students who apply within the deadline and meet the requirements will be placed in a lottery. Applicants will be selected by random computer drawing for available seats. Applicants not selected will be placed on a numbered waitlist.

Applications will reopen a week after the lottery, once the lottery priorities have been assigned. Open enrollment will be on a first come, first serve basis after all waiting list priorities have been assigned. Phase II applicants must meet all requirements to be accepted into a Magnet Academy, according to the website.
