A skit on Saturday Night Live last night mentioned Acadiana Open Channel – but as is often the case with the show, it’s a double-edged sword.
“I woke up today to a frenzy of texts, phone calls, tags on Facebook, etc to congratulate AOC for the mention on Saturday Night Live. We are ecstatic over the publicity we are receiving,” said AOC director Ed Bowie. “We hope this creates more awareness about what we do at AOC: to help members of our community share knowledge, information, opinions and more.”
The skit features two people who apparently are supposed to be Cajuns, neither of whom can speak English properly, playing on the old cliche about Cajuns being ignorant and uneducated. Also featured are as a “gator” and a “chili pepper with sunglasses.” Seth Meyers makes an appearance as the straight man, and an SNL cast member portrays Taylor Swift. The antagonist in the skit is a man in a huge biscuit costume wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.
One of the segments is called “Da Closer Look at Dis Here,” and although two characters are apparently supposed to be Cajun, they can’t pronounce Atchafalaya and used the word “crawdad.”

The skit wasn’t nearly as entertaining as most of AOC’s programming, which is created and produced by Acadiana residents. For more info about AOC, click here.
