UPDATE: The man who was shot last night by a Lafayette Police Officer has been identified as 19-year-old Keion Bonner of Lafayette.

Bonner is still in the hospital, a spokesman said.

Earlier today, Louisiana State Police said they are now investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday night in Lafayette.

Troopers say that their investigation revealed that the shooting occurred in the 400 block of Hilda Street as officers with the Lafayette Police Department were responding to “criminal activity” in the area. While on scene officers encountered a suspect and an officer discharged their weapon striking that person.

The individual was treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital. Troopers say that no officers were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Witnesses at the scene told KATC that a 17-year-old was shot during the incident. That detail has not been confirmed by police. On Tuesday night,  the intersection of Cora and Willow Streets heading towards Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was closed as police investigated the scene.

Witnesses also say that an alleged altercation occurred between three individuals and two police officers. One of those three individuals was allegedly shot several times. These details have not been confirmed by officials.
