The Lafayette Fire Department hosted its annual Fire Prevention Week Awards Ceremony today at the Robichaux Center.
Children in grades Kindergarten through 8 who won poster and essay contests were honored today at the event.
This year’s theme, “Look, Listen and Learn” is designed to raise awareness on fire hazards, functional smoke alarms, and fire safety education.
Children in grades K through 3 designed posters. The posters are judged by the firefighters.
Children in grades 4 through 8 competed in an essay writing contest based on the theme organized by Zonta Club of Lafayette. Zonta Club has partnered with the fire department for the past 20 years.
The winners are recognized at the ceremony and treated to food, drinks, and a ride on a fire truck.
