LPSS votes on student verification and 14th check for employees

The Lafayette Parish School Board discussed several changes to the Pupil Progression Plan during Wednesday’s meeting among several other agenda items.

Also on the agenda, verification of students attending schools in the parish. Tonight, the board voted unanimously to direct the Superintendent to establish a process to help verify students information who are provisionally admitted to schools.

This vote came after concern that students at Southside Elementary were not attending the approved school location in regards to their zones of residence.

Also on the agenda, the approved the Blue Ribbon Committee recommendation to declare an excess distribution of $4,101,213 in the 2002 Half-Cent Sales Tax Fund and approve the payout of the excess to classroom teachers as defined in the Administrative Plan.

The board voted 6-3 for this distribution approval.

This approval would give $1,437.70 to an eligible employee. In order for a teacher to be eligible for this payment, they must be full-time and actively employed on the date of the declaration of this excess distribution (October 3, 2018).

This is the 14th check will be included as a separate payroll check and will be distributed to eligible employees.
