One person has been arrested and another is being sought after police attempted to stop a vehicle in connection with the burglary of a Scott business.

Scott Police say an officer observed a vehicle leaving a local scrap yard on Saturday night with scrap items in the back of the truck. According to police, the business had been the target of previous burglaries and the officer attempted to stop the vehicle to investigate.

During that attempt, police say the suspects fled leading to a short pursuit through Lafayette. The vehicle was stopped at N. Loop Street with the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department and Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Police say the driver of the vehicle fled on foot and eluded officers. The passenger of the vehicle, identified as 44-year-old Marcus A. Ward of Lafayette, was located still inside the vehicle. Ward was arrested and booked on charges of Simple Burglary. His bond is set at $10,000.

Responding agencies were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the driver of the vehicle is asked to contact Scott Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (337) 889-5104 or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS. All callers can remain anonymous.
