The firefighters will join the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office task force for fourteen days to assist first responders in areas affected by flooding from Hurricane Florence. The team left Lafayette at around 5:00 am.

According to the fire department, words of encouragement, support, and prayers were offered by Chief Benoit before the team’s departure.

“I am very proud of the men and women of the department who joined the USAR team. It’s an extra commitment to emergency service that each one volunteered for,” said Cheif Benoit in a release. “They were called upon within 24 hours to respond to assist victims impacted by Hurricane Florence leaving their families on a short notice. It’s defining of what public service is all about.”
