Today, in observance of “International Day of Peace,” students at Myrtle Place Elementary in Lafayette gathered on campus for a short ceremony where they formed a human peace sign.

Administrators say the students also sent out cards to local businesses and residents with messages of kindness and peace.

“International Day of Peace,” also known as “World Peace Day,” was established by the United Nations in 1981. The day is described by the UN as, “a globally shared date for all humanity to commit Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.”
