LAFAYETTE–High school sophomores and juniors from across Lafayette Parish and their parents have more knowledge about the college enrollment process after Monday night’s Gear Up guidance event at the UL Student Union.

Lafayette Parish School System and UL officials discussed a number of topics, including ACT test preparation, college visits, how to access technology in the home, and how to minimize the cost of education.

“We really want kids seeing themselves on a post-secondary campus,” said Traci Aucoin, the Lafayette school system’s Gear Up project director. “So, we start early with a lot of work centered around helping them to discover what it is that they desire, which we believe is their dream. We want them to dream. We want them to believe in their dreams. Once we get them to believing in their dreams, then we come and support them with a plan, and we help them prepare and plan for their post-secondary degree. It’s one thing to dream, but Gear Up is a dream with a plan.”
