Charlie Lenox, former editor and UL instructor, dies

Funeral services have been announced for Charlie Lenox, a long-time local journalist, who died Tuesday.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Walters Funeral Home at 2424 N University Ave. in Lafayette. The funeral will start at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home’s Sunrise Chapel. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens near the funeral home.

Lenox was 80.

He started his career as a sports writer and ended up as the long-time editor of The Daily Advertiser. He also served as an instructor of aspiring journalists at UL, and for many years was an adviser for the student newspaper, The Vermilion.

According to the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Athletic Network Website, Lenox served as Sports Editor, City Editor, Managing Editor, Executive Editor and Editorial Page Editor for The Advertiser, and worked for the newspaper from 1962 until 2004. Starting in 2004, he was Director of Student Publications at UL, the website states.
