Free Creative Program for Teens starts Sep. 10

Registration is now open for AOC Community Media’s after-school creative program called MUSE. Each Monday, anyone ages 12-18 can participate in a wide variety of creative media-based activities led by AOC staff and visiting instructors.

Muse sessions begin at 4:30pm and end around 6pm at AOC. All sessions are free for students. Although sessions are first come, first serve, pre-registration is encouraged for as many sessions as desired. AOC membership is not required.

Sep. 10 Cartoon Effects
Students will learn the basic tools and functions of photo editing software. They will test their skills by creating fun cartoon portraits.

September 17 Voice Techniques with
Robin Small-McCarthy
Students will learn the techniques and contexts of voice acting with coaching and constructive feedback. Led by dynamic vocal performer and instructor, Robin Small-McCarthy!

September 24 Music & Songwriting
Students will learn about the basics of rhythm and sound in song production and work together to produce some unique tunes.

October 1 Video Production
Students will learn the ins and outs of video composition and discover how to make any subject look interesting! They will practice capturing action, people, and still objects.

October 8 Video Editing
Students will learn how video editing can make all the difference in their productions. They will discuss and practice how different editing techniques can give more depth and dimension to their visual stories.

October 15 On-Air Talent with
Bruce Coen
Students will learn some powerful techniques on how to communicate their authentic self on stage, on film, or on the radio. Led by performing actor and theater instructor Bruce Coen.

October 29 Spooky Special Effects
Students will learn creative and practical skills to achieve spooky horror effects for television and film.

November 5 Media Literacy Week:
Fact or Fake News
Students will analyze the problems and potential consequences associated with the spread of fake news and learn tips for how to identify reliable sources.

November 12 Stop Motion Animation
Students will get crafty learning and observing basic animation concepts. They will use these skills to create their own short stop motion animation masterpieces.

December 3 Kids Who Code
Students will learn the fundamentals of computer coding in honor of National Computer Science Education Week! Led by AOC Programming Coordinator William McFarlain.
