The Keeping Kids Safe Project is hosting a free family safety event for parents in the Lafayette area on Saturday. The event is hosted in partnership with local law enforcement and community organizations.

Today's event highlights local community organizations and will provide free fingerprinting to children. The Lafayette Police Department's Public Information Officer will be at the event with great information for parents.

Also on hand will be the Louisiana State Police, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Lafayette Fire Department Fire Prevention Unit. The fire department will have an engine for kids to check out and have their picture taken in.

The event also features free digital fingerprinting for children, which parents can then take home for safekeeping.

Many other local organizations will be in attendance, providing information and activities for families. Included are the American Red Cross, Operation Lifesaver, Acadiana Animal Aid, Acadiana Boys and Girl's Club, and more.

Activities take place on Saturday until 4 p.m. at the Giles Nissan building, located at 6137 Johnston Street.
