A 22-year-old Lafayette man is accused pointing a gun at a motorist on Interstate 10 near Welsh, according to Chief Deputy Christopher Ivey, spokesman for the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff Office.

Marquail Laquan Lee James faces an aggravated assault with a firearm charge.

A driver reported a person driving a red Mercedes with no license plate pointed a silver pistol at him while traveling down the interstate, stated Ivey.

Deputies were able to locate the car near Jennings. James was arrested when deputies observed a silver semi-auto Smith and Wesson 9 mm pistol and two magazines in plain view on the floorboard of the Mercedes.

James was booked into the parish jail and is being held with no bond, according to the spokesman.
