Introductory social held before 2019 Congres Mondial Acadien 2019

Local residents who are attending the Congres Mondial Acadien 2019 were invited to a social tonight, Wednesday, August 7 to meet others who are also traveling to the conference.

The event was held for those traveling to the Congress to interact with others and their guests. It was a very informal event and is cocktail style. There was no admission cost or RSVP needed; guests were invited to simply show up.

All CMA attendees were asked to spread the word about the social to others who may be attending the Congress.

The event was held at Blue Moon Saloon at 215 E. Convent St. in Lafayette.

There was be a cash bar with a wide assortment of drinks and free food provided by the Acadian Superette in Freetown courtesy of Blue Moon Saloon.

The Congres Mondiale Acadien is held every five years and its purpose is to strengthen Acadian ties throughout the world while showcasing "a modern and authentic Acadian identity."

According to the official website, "many families of Acadian descent get together during each Congres mondial acadien, reuniting with distant cousins or renewing links with their extended family."

This is the 6th Congress and it marks 25 years of the event.
