State police are identifying the suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night in Jeanerette.

Troopers say Jeanerette City deputy marshals attempted to pull over a vehicle on Ira Street, but a chase ensued. The vehicle reached a dead end, and the driver, identified as 26-year-old Jeffery Lee Marks, of Jeanerette, and a passenger allegedly ditched the vehicle and fled. The marshal ran after the driver and, at some point during the pursuit, shot Marks.

According to the marshal, the Marks brandished a gun, which is why he shot him.

The marshal also says Marks was wanted for several burglaries in multiple parishes.

Marks was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail for aggravated assault on a peace officer.

State police were contacted by the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office at 8 p.m. to investigate.

The investigation remains ongoing.
