In New Iberia, a business with question marks in the window had many speculating what it would be.
Today, signs outside the building read, “open Interviews, come on in!”
Dana Romero was sitting inside waiting for his next new hire. Romero said the question marks raised many ideas from the public.
“A European eye wax studio was the most unique. We got everything from a dog wash to a strip club. It was really interesting,” Romero said.
That mystery is now solved.
Romero says that the business will be called “A Spot for Tea: An Acadian Tea Room.”
“It will be a modern take on a Victorian tea room. And well, as a twist, we’ll be Acadiana’s only real cheese room,” he said.
The shop will also be a cafe serving soups, salads, sandwiches, wine, and beer.
“Some things that are more unique. Local cheese, unique beer, you can have a plate of cheese all while watching the cars go by in downtown New Iberia,” Romero said.
This isn’t the first time Romero has owned a shop like this. Romero and his wife had the exact same business in downtown Lafayette. They closed before giving birth to their son 7 years ago.
“It’s time to get back into the business,” Romero said.
Renovations are still taking place inside 108 E. Main Street in New Iberia. Romero hopes to be open by May 6, 2019.
He is also holding open job interviews from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on May 1st and 2nd.
