Crews to conduct smoke testing for sewer defects in New Iberia

Posted

The City of New Iberia will conduct smoke testing for Sanitary Sewer Survey work from Monday, November 19 until Wednesday, November 21.

Smoke tests will be conducted in the area bounded by Main Street to the north, Admiral Doyle to the south, St. Jude to the east, and Hopkins Street to the west.

Officials say the smoke is non-toxic, harmless, odorless and is used to identify sanitary defects in the sewer system. Any smoke coming from vent stacks on houses or from manholes is a normal part of the survey. Smoke should not enter homes unless plumbing is defective or drain traps are dried up.

Smoke testing should last for a few hours in the described area.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to Compliance EnviroSystems at 800-675-9409 or by calling the City of New Iberia at 337-369-2300.
