Iberia Parish to conduct mosquito abatement operations

Officials with the Iberia Parish Mosquito Abatement District will conduct aerial operations in the parish beginning tonight and continuing throughout the week. Operations will begin tonight, Tuesday, September 18 in the  Coteau Holmes area. The areas of Laurent, Sugar Oaks and Coteau will also see mosquito operations this week, according to the District.

The District asks citizens to wear repellent, cover exposed skin and avoid outdoor activity when mosquitoes are most active. Operations will begin near sunset and last approximately one and one-half hours with weather permitting.

Hypersensitive individuals or those wishing to avoid exposure to chemicals used in spraying operations should refrain from outdoor activities. All others may proceed as normal.

 Low flying aircraft will be visible during operations and The Districts says that residents in the spraying area should not attempt to look up or follow the path of the aircraft as it flies overhead.  Spraying will remain brief.

The following is the list of places and dates where spraying will occur:

Tuesday, September 18 – Coteau Holmes: operations will encompass Gondron, Oday, Harold Landry west to Rodrigue Rd. and all points in between.

Wednesday, September 19 – Laurent: Rynella, Migues, Laurent, Lydia, Weeks Island Rd., College Rd. and all points in between. 

Thursday, September 20 – Sugar Oaks: operations will focus in Sugar Oaks, Daspit, Interlaken, Vida Shaw, Loreauville, Ed Broussard and Gondron.

Friday, September 21 – Coteau:  Hwy 88 / Coteau Rd., the Acadiana Regional Airport, Livingston Rd. west to the Parish line, Romero Rd., Coteau park, Hwy. 90.
