Wednesday night marked the culmination of the 2020 Home for the Holidays campaign, with the presentation of the campaign proceeds to Lafayette Habitat for Humanity, Healing House, Faith House, and St. Michael Center for Veterans.
Representatives from the four benefiting charities and Acadian Home Builders Association gathered at Rock'n'Bowl in Lafayette for the presentation.
CEO of Acadian Home Builders Association Adrienne Fontenot explained that Wednesday's event was the end result of the efforts of everyone who helped make the 2020 campaign a success.
"It's just the culmination of the efforts of so many. From volunteers to the builder of the home, but most importantly to all of you in Acadiana who purchased tickets during one of the strangest years in our lifetimes," Fontenot stated.
The presentation marks more than $2.3 million that Acadian Home Builders Association has donated to the community to assist with housing needs.
Fontenot explained that the Home for the Holidays campaign was started in 2005, the same year that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck the Gulf Coast, and that year the winner was a Hurricane Katrina evacuee. Since then, the association's mission has been to ensure safe, affordable housing for the community, and Home for the Holidays was established with that premise in mind.
The benefiting charities have missions that align in one way or another with this premise, Fontenot explained.
Fontenot added that in 2020, the need for services from the benefiting agencies in particular was at an all time high due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Through everyone's generosity we're able to put funds into those agencies whose fundraising efforts were also skewed last year," she said.
Fontenot added the Acadian Home Builders Association is already gearing up for the 2021 Home for the Holidays campaign.
