A longtime Director of the Lafayette Public Library passed away on Friday after a two-year battle with colon cancer.

A post from family on her Facebook page says that Sona Dombourian passed away at age 65. She was Assistant Director/Operations Manager of the library for more than 23 years. She was later appointed Director.

One of her accomplishments was the renovation of the downtown library and overseeing the construction of several regional libraries.

Sona had a BS in Music and a Masters in Library Science from LSU.

She retired in 2016.

Her family adds that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lafayette Public Library Foundation Endowment fund in Sona's name.
