The Acadiana District 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Sale are underway until Saturday at the Blackham Barns.
Today's shows included swine, beef, and dairy cattle.
First up tomorrow is the goat show, followed by a poultry show.
County agents say the show isn't all about the animals, but about the kids that participate.
"That's really what the whole point of this thing is," explained Andrew Granger, County Agent with Vermilion Parish. "It's about youth development. It's not really about the animals. It's about a young person sowing some responsibility, gaining some patience, being able to handle an animal, make a relationship with that animal, and spend that time and stay out of trouble. Stay doing something that's positive."
Saturday's events are as follows:
Beef Cattle Show- Saturday 8:00 a.m.
Goat Show- Saturday 8:00 a.m.
Poultry Show- Saturday 9:00 a.m.
