On Tuesday, September 8, Chevron provided free gas and gas gift cards this week to residents of Southwest Louisiana affected by Hurricane Laura

The giveaway began at 9:00 am.

The company says they plan to give away 8,000 gallons of gas and $15,000 in gas gift cards to citizens and first responders.

This giveaway is in collaboration with charitable organization Louisiana Coastal Relief and Recovery and Retif Oil and Fuel, a Chevron distributor.

Residents and emergency personnel were able to stop by Grand Lake High School to receive up to 20 gallons of free gasoline per household and the gas gift cards.

The fuel and gas cards were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to as many people as possible to help with their immediate fuel needs.

Additionally, Chevron recently donated $500,000 to various organizations to provide hurricane relief assistance to Cameron and Calcasieu parishes. The charitable groups include the American Red Cross, the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana and Louisiana Coastal Relief and Recovery.

Chevron is also coordinating employee supply drives and matching employees’ charitable contributions.

"When the citizens are in need they show up, and that's so important for people to see. It gives them comfort to know people are paying attention to the plight and the problems that everybody is facing down here," said State Senator Michael Reese, who represents District 30. "It's very important for a company with the resources like Chevron to show up and help out."
