State Police say an unrestrained Texas man was killed this morning following a single-vehicle crash on I-10 in Calcasieu Parish.
Troopers say the crash occurred around 1:00 am just west of Vinton. The crash claimed the life of 54-year-old Daryl M. Piazza of Groves, Texas.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Piazza was traveling on I-10 West in a 2003 GMC pickup truck when, for unknown reasons, he ran off the right side of the roadway.
Troopers say that after exiting the roadway, Piazza struck a guardrail and his vehicle rolled over. Piazza was unrestrained at the time of the accident, according to troopers, and was partially ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.
Toxicology samples were obtained from Piazza. The crash remains under investigation.
