An Abbeville man is in jail for allegedly leading police on a pursuit in a stolen bus through Lake Charles.

After midnight, Lake Charles police noticed the bus at the intersection of Broad Street and Pamco Road when they tried to pull the driver, later identified as 40-year-old Todd Bonamo, over.

Bonamo allegedly refused to stop, leading police on the pursuit.

According to a spokesman with the police department, the suspect lost control of the bus, causing him to veer off the road and hit a building.

The chase ended near the intersection of West Prien Road and Hollyhill Road.

Bonamo was arrested at 1:11 a.m. this morning for aggravated flight from officers and illegal possession of stolen things.

No bond has been set.

Shortly before the crash, officers responded to a hit-and-run at a trailer park on Broad Street.

Witnesses say a male suspect driving a Hotard bus hit a few trailers and a utility police before abandoning the bus and fleeing.

Police determined that bus was stolen as well.

It is unclear at this time if Bonamo is a suspect in the hit-and-run; however, the spokesman says additional charges may be pending.
